1910 – The Holt Manufacturing Company registers "Caterpillar" as a trademark.
1925 – The Holt Manufacturing Company and C. L. Best Tractor Co. are merged to form the Caterpillar Tractor Co. Caterpillar’s first product line consists of five tractors.
1927 – The Model Twenty Track-Type Tractor is the first new product designed by the new company.
1928 – Caterpillar makes its first acquisition purchasing the Russell Grader Manufacturing Company.
1931 – Caterpillar changes the standard paint color of its machines from gray with red trim to "Hi-Way Yellow" with black trim.
1941 – Caterpillar introduces its first wheel tractor as well as a matching wagon product line.
1945 – Caterpillar introduces the first company-designed-and-built bulldozer blade.
1946 – Caterpillar introduces the first company-designed-and-built pull-type scraper.
1950 – Caterpillar introduces its first self-propelled wheel tractor-scraper.
1952 – Caterpillar introduces the first integrated track loader.
1967 – Caterpillar opens a new worldwide headquarters building in Peoria, Illinois.
1979 – Caterpillar discontinues the use of its "Hi-Way Yellow" paint color and implements a new color – "Caterpillar Yellow".
1998 – Caterpillar introduces a compact construction equipment product line.
